The Vineyards of Girardet
The Estate Vineyard
With the first vines planted in 1971, our roots run deep. Our vineyard soils are very rich in turbidites, a type of sedimentary rock composed of layered particles that grade upward from coarser to finer sizes and originated from ancient currents in the oceans. These soils are 10-15 million years old and are world renown for growing the best wines with a smooth, complex mouthfeel.
Currently the vineyard sits at 15 total acres in size, and is comprised of many small patches of different grape varieties so that we may fully explore a diversity of wine types for your enjoyment. The site is 43.1 degrees north of the equator, which is in line with Southern Tuscany in the Old World.
The topology is rolling with several steep grades and the elevation ranging from 750 to 900 feet above sea level. The 3000 foot high Coastal Range is just to the west, and provides cool mountain air with seasonal fog blankets for the vineyard in the evenings.
In adherence with Old-World ways our vines are completely dry-farmed, with the goal being to pull the complex essence of the earth into every glass of wine. Our farming model is also pesticide-free so we can be confident in the purity of our final product as well as the health of our consumers, workers, and all the many animals who live in our vineyard and create it’s complex ecosystem.
The adherence to these natural ways has led to the creation of many award-winning wines over the decades.
